Nabin Chandra Bardoli

Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bardoli was born on 3 November 1875 in North Guwahati His father was Rai Bahadur Madhav Chandra Bardoli and his mother was Someshwari Devi.

He spent his childhood in North Guwahati and moved to Tezpur, where his father worked. He then went to college and passed his FA with distinction from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta in 1894 and his BA with distinction from Presidency College in He passed his BL examination from Ripon College in 1899 and came to Guwahati to practice law.

He was an Advocate of the Calcutta High Court from 1908 to 1918, while practicing law in Guwahati.

In 1918, Bardarai returned to Guwahati due to his mother’s illness. After the death of his mother, he did not go back to Calcutta and started practicing law in Guwahati.

Bardoli was married to Hemant Kumari Devi, daughter of Malbhag Barua, a tea farmer in the south

During his stay in Guwahati, Bardoli was the spokesperson of the society. Envy of the poor was one of the best qualities of his character. Bardoli was enthusiastic about the movement to establish Earl Law College in Guwahati

It took a lot of effort to join and find a solution. It was arranged by Scamon Bardoli of Earl’s Law College. He also taught there for a while.

He also established the Kamalader Institution in North Guwahati. In North Guwahati, Bardoli donated his land for the service of the people and established the Anand Library and donated many of his valuable books.

After completing his education, Nabin Chandra Bardoloi joined the Assam Association, the most important national organisation. In 1914, he was elected President of the Dibrugarh Session.

He later joined the National Congress and attended the Nagpur session of the Congress in Nabin Chandra Bardoloi and Chandranath Sharma led Assam in Gandhiji’s Non-Cooperation Movement.

He was imprisoned for giving up his law practice and jumping into the movement. He was awarded the title of Karmabiro for his outstanding contribution to the promotion and dissemination of the freedom movement.

He wrote six books during his long imprisonment.

He wrote music, poetry, articles, etc. from the Jonaki-Bijuli-Usha era which were also published in the magazines ‘Jonaki’, ‘Bijuli’ and ‘Banhi’ The famous national anthem ‘Deka Gavru Dal’ inspired enthusiasm among the society. He practiced literature and music in his spare time. He also mastered Urdu. He translated the Urdu ‘Hatem Tai’ into Assamese.

He was a pious and spiritual man who preserved his culture and traditions. There were thirteen pujas in twelve months, including the worship of the planets and stars, as in an old Hindu household. He was a devotee of Krishna. Bardoli was very interested in Ghosha, Namkirtan, Bargit, Gita path etc.

Atal Nabin Chandra Bardoli, who was confident, succeeded in most of what he undertook. Stimulated by energy, he never feared death. But while in jail, he suffered from diabetes. The body grew neglected and some parts of the body became dysfunctional.
