2 October Gandhi Jayanti

Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday October 2 is celebrated every year as Gandhi Jayanti. The main purpose of this day is to remember the indomitable contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in liberating India from British colonial rule through the non-violence movement and to create awareness about his ideals. This day of Gandhi Jayanti has been celebrated as World Non-Violence Day since 2008. On June 15, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate October 2 as World Day of Non-Violence. In order to establish a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence in the world, the United Nations called upon all its member states, as well as voluntary organizations, to celebrate World Day of Non-Violence. Gandhi Jayanti may be the best day to spread the message of non-violence in the world. Because the ideals established by Mahatma Gandhi by leading a big movement with the message of non-violence and giving freedom to a country is a rare example all over the world. It may be recalled that Iran’s Nobel laureate Shirin Ibadi had proposed for the first time in 2004 to celebrate October 2 as World Non-Violence Day.
