National Voters Day | January 26

National Voters Day

January 26

The Union Cabinet has taken a decision to celebrate 25 January as National Voters Day every year in India. The slogan of this day is, ‘Be proud as a voter, be prepared to vote. The main objective of this day is to attract the youth of the country to the electoral process. There are many reasons why young people are participating in the voting process in India. The minimum age was reduced from 21 to 18 years due to the acquisition of the right to vote, but a majority of the country’s youth have refrained from participating in the electoral process for years. The Election Commission of India has decided to complete the process of identification of newly occupying youth by January 1 annually and on National Voter’s Day will be issued on January 25 to be issued to them. It is also expected to promote the concept of responsible citizenship and empowerment in the minds of the youth.
