Pravasi Bharatiya Day

NRI Day is celebrated on 9th January every year in recognition of the contribution of NRIs in India to the development of India. On January 9, Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa. The day has been celebrated since 2003 under the sponsorship of the Ministry of NRI, Government of India, Ministry of North Eastern Development and the Confederation of Indian Industry. The day is celebrated with a three-day program in a designated city of the country. In 2011, about 1,500 delegates from 51 countries participated in the NRI Day in New Delhi. The President of the country officially presented the ‘Nedered Indian Award’ award on this day.
