Dia menyertai suaminya untuk berjuang untuk kemerdekaan India. In fact, Kamala Nehru was at the forefront of the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1921. She was greatly influenced by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, and it is much said and believed that it was Kamala Nehru who urged her husband to change her way of hidup.
