It did not know how to recite the Holy scriptures. According to the king, it lacked the minimum sense of etiquette. Not only these, the bird only ate fruits in the orchards that made the royal fruit market run with a deficit. It was of no use. As a result, the king was displeased with the bird and felt that it needed strict education.</li>

Ans. Rabindranath Tagore's short story employs irony to unpack the limitations of mainstream education. Firstly, the king wanted the bird to be educated like human beings. It shows his folly in comprehending the vivacious nature of the bird's. He failed to understand that the bird was meant for liberty and not for learning etiquette and chanting scriptures. Secondly, the nephew too failed to understand the exact nature of the bird education. He had an exquisite cage built for the bird's education. But in reality, it was for external validation. Even the pundit who were summoned to educate the bird, thought it best to produce voluminous books and stuff the pages into the bird's mouth. This were not enough. In one final attempt to traumatise the bird, its wings were chopped of. After every way to freedom was closed the only way to be alive was death. With the bird's death everyone finally seemed to be content with the bird's education.
