29 October World Stroke Day

Recently, one person dies of stroke or paralysis every six seconds in the world. Every year 15 million people suffer from stroke and about 6 million of them die. Stroke ranks second as the highest death factor in people over the age of 60. On the other hand, stroke ranks fifth as a cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 59. Some children, including newborns, are even affected by stroke. The total number of people who die of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in the world annually is more and more people die of stroke. This information may be enough to explain the severity of a stroke.That is why with the aim of raising awareness among the public about stroke, improving treatment and remedial measures and taking a concerted effort to prevent it, the Burld Stroke Organization has decided to celebrate 29th October as World Stroke Day since 2006. Through this day, efforts are made to create global awareness by bringing together various health organizations, medical, non-governmental programs, etc. In Assam too, especially the GNRC Hospital authorities have been at the forefront of celebrating World Stroke Day with an aim to create awareness about stroke.
