1. Answer the following questions:

(i) Where did the wood-cutter live?

Ans: The wood-cutter lived in a village which was on the bank of a river.

(ii) What was he cutting?

Ans: He was cutting one of the branches of a tree which stood just beside the river.

(iii) Why was the wood-cutter sad?

Ans: The wood-cutter was sad because his axe suddenly fell into the river and the river was very deep.

(iv) Who came out of the river and what did he do?

Ans: The River-God came out of the river and he tested the honesty of the wood-cutter.

(v) What was the first axe made of?

Ans: The first axe was made up of gold.

(vi) How many axes did the wood-cutter get from the River-God and why?

Ans: The wood-cutter get three axes from the River-God because one was his own axe and other two he get as a reward from the River-God for his honesty.

(vii) What lesson do you learn from the story?

Ans: We learned from the lesson that we should always be honest, and not be greedy about things.
