1. Answer the following questions.
(a) What happened one day while Louis Pasteur was playing with his friends?
Ans: One day, while Louis Pasteur was playing with his friends, he saw a frightened man running towards him. The man told him that someone had been bitten by a mad wolf from the mountain.

(c) What experiments did Pasteur conduct on rabbits?
Ans: Pasteur conducted experiments on rabbits to study the virus that causes rabies. He treated the infected rabbits by giving them injections and succeeded in curing them.

5. Active and Passive Voice
“Someone has been bitten by a mad wolf from the mountain.”
The words are in the Passive Voice.
অসমীয়া অৰ্থঃ এই বাক্যটো Passive Voice বা কৰ্মবাচ্যত আছে।
Active form:
A mad wolf from the mountain has bitten someone.
This sentence is in the Active Voice.
অসমীয়া অৰ্থঃ এই বাক্যটো Active Voice বা কৰ্তৃবাচ্যত আছে।
Change the following Active sentences into Passive Voice.
Active: Pasteur injected the boy with the virus.
Passive: The boy was injected with the virus by Pasteur.

6. Let’s learn some tense forms.
(a) Simple Present Tense
We use the Simple Present—
(i) To express universal truths:
The sun rises in the east.
(ii) To express habitual or repeated actions:
We play football in the afternoon.
(iii) To express permanent situations:
He works in the institute.

(b) Present Continuous Tense
We use the Present Continuous Tense to express an action that is going on at the present moment.
Example: He is working on his experiment.
অসমীয়া অৰ্থঃ বৰ্তমান সময়ত চলি থকা কাম বুজাবলৈ Present Continuous Tense ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়।
(c) Complete the sentences using the Simple Present or Present Continuous forms.

Ans: The man is running towards the bus.
অসমীয়া উত্তৰঃ মানুহজন বাছখনৰ ফালে দৌৰি আছে।

Ans: The bus usually comes at 8 o’clock.

7. Complete the sentences using the Simple Past or Past Continuous forms.

11. Rewrite the sentences in Indirect/Reported Speech.
