World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on February 4. The day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control, a Geneva-based NGO. It is a common platform for more than 460 organisations from around 120 countries around the world that continue their efforts to prevent cancer. The main objective of World Cancer Day is to make international efforts to increase public awareness for cancer prevention and diagnosis at the right time and to improve its treatment system. It is worth mentioning that about 6 lakh people die of cancer every month in the world. The number is expected to double in the next 20 to 40 years. But with proper prevention and treatment done at the right time, this mortality rate can be reduced to a great extent. Apart from trying to increase public awareness through World Cancer Day, governments of different countries are also pressurised to take effective action. The importance of World Day has also increased significantly in view of the increasing incidence of cancer in recent times. Because awareness is one of the ways to prevent cancer.
